Great Britain
In March 2009 the Academy accepted the teachers Steve Keegan, Vice Dean of Applied Arts Faculty and John McClenaghen of Fine Arts Faculty at Glyndwr University, Wales, Great Britain. They delivered lectures and made presentation of their University and after having visited the studios of NAA discussed the possibilities for further development of the partnership.
Germany
In April 2009 MA in Graphics, graduates 2009 Diana Georgieva participated in the International Contest Golden Kentaver, Munich 2009.
Egypt
In March 2009 Academia Gallery hosted a representative exhibition of teaching staff from Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt. The official delegation for the opening of the exhibition included Amina Ebeid, Dean of the Faculty in Education in Arts, Prof. Ismail Shawki, Vice Dean of Graduation Studies and Researchers and Prof. Said Hussein, Design Department. During their visit our guests acquired information about the structure of the academy, methods and forms of education and had a look at the studios and their equipment. In result a bilateral Protocol for Art Education and Scientific Cooperation was discussed and signed envisaging exchange of teaching staff, students and information within the frame of the already signed Memorandum of Understanding between both institutions.
Lithuania
In July 2009 the first edition of the international fair for contemporary Art Vilnius ’09, organized by the Lithuanian Art Gallerists‘ Association, was opened in Vilnius, Lithuania.
After a preliminary selection, 101 galleries were appointed to take part in the Art Vilnius ’09. Academia Gallery was among the selected galleries and presented the works of Assoc. Prof. Svetozar Benchev – mixed technique, Assoc. Prof. Dimo Kolibarov – Graphics, Prof. Mitko Dinev – Sculpture and Rossen Toshev – Painting.
Russia
In December 2008 in closed collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of R. Bulgaria, the exhibition of Russian Art – Paradoxes of History from the collection of ROSIZO State Museum-Exhibition Center was opened at Academia Gallery.
Serbia
In November 2008 Princess Ljubica’s Konak Hall – the City Museum of Belgrade hosted representative teaching staff exhibition of our Academy. The event was organized jointly with the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia.
In June 2009 our official delegation attended the celebrations of the 44 anniversary of the foundation of the University of Nis. This visit allowed our representatives to get familiar with the studios and the equipment of the University and to discuss possibilities for cooperation resulting in signing a bilateral Memorandum for Cooperation envisaging exchange of teaching staff, students and information
Turkey
In March 2009 MARMARA University, Istanbul displayed works of teaching staff at Academia Gallery. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Nazan Erkmen, Dean of the Fine Arts Faculty at Marmara University, Istanbul.
Turkey/Croatia/Romania
In the creative residence of the National Academy of Art in Ahtopol from 5 to 15 September was held the first international symposium and a summer academy in the field of sculpture in wood. The guests from our partner academies Prof. Slavomir Drinkovic (Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb, Croatia), Assoc. Prof. Neslihan Pala (Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul, Turkey), Lecturer Adrian Ilfoveanu
(National University of Arts, Bucharest, Romania) worked together with NAA teachers – Professor Peter Bonev, Assoc. Prof. Emil Mirchev and Assoc. Prof. Valentin Lilov. The project was attended by students from the NAA and the three partner academies.
Finland
In October 2008 Academia Gallery hosted a joint exhibition of students from the North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Joensuu, Finland and the National Academy of Art. The opening of the exhibition was attended by teachers Seppo Vaananen, Rita Turunen, and Aino Lampio and four students of the partner academy. In February 2009 our exhibition of students’ works was displayed at the North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Joensuu, Finland.
France
The National Academy of Art continued successfully its partnership with Cite Internacionale des Art in Paris, France. In October 2008 Cite Internacionale des Art celebrated the 43-th anniversary of its foundation by organizing international conference with participation of official representatives from foreign institutions and countries. The National Academy of Art was represented at that event by Prof. Kokalov, Rector. The aim of the conference was to give account on the experience accumulated till that moment and to outline prospects and trends for further development.
The selection of teachers for 2009 was done in compliance with the new regulations of Cite requiring all candidates to prepare projects which they were going to complete during their stay at Cite. The Commission selected four teachers and four MA who will spend 2 months practice each at our studio of Cite. The teachers are Prof. Bozhidar Bonchev, Prof. Vihroni Popnedelev, Assoc. Prof. Kiril Gogov and Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Alexiev and MA in Graphics Diana Georgieva and MA in Painting Svilena Koleva of the Fine Arts Faculty and MA in Porcelain and Glass Teodora Peteva and and MA in Ceremics Nadya Teknedjieva of the Apllied Arts Faculty.
In March 2009 Joel Rabinovic, outstanding French Sculpture of Israeli origin visited the National Academy of Art. A film presenting Rabinovic’s creative works by Atanas Kyriakov was projected. The event was organized in parallel with his solo exhibition opened at the Gallery for Foreign Art in Sofia during that time.

In June, 2009. Prof. Raiko Raykov and the students Irina Krumova, Kamelia Magunska, Leda Gurgulitsova and Manuela Baeva of Porcelain and Glass Department at NAA participated in the 10 Symposium for Glass – Interglass 09 which was organized in Novy Bor
Fulbright Fellowship
Throughout the second semester of academic year 2008/2009 under Fulbright Fellowship Lecturer Ted Efremoff carried out research work at studio of Mural Painting Department.
Lifelong Learning Program – Ersmus
In April 2009 the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium awarded Erasmus Extended University Charter under Lifelong Learning Program to the National Academy of Art. Besides the activities, performed till now, the Erasmus Extended University Charter will allow students mobility with aim students’ placements in enterprises, non-governmental organizations and universities abroad.

Student mobility
In 2008/2009 thirty nine of our students went on exchange in partners’ academies and NAA accepted 12 foreign Erasmus students.
In academic 2009–2010 forty two students were selected under LLP Erasmus and offered for approval and acceptance by our partners during the first and the second semester.

Prof. Devabil Kara, lecturer in Graphics displayed his serigraphic works and delivered lecture and workshop.
During the same period the National Academy of Art accepted 5 members of teaching and administrative staff with aim of training from:

Glyndwr University, Wales, Great Britain – Dr. Cerys Alsonso, lecturer in Metal was on a training visit with Prof. Bogomil Nikolov, head of Metal Department; Hogeschool Zuyd University, Maastricht Theatre Academy, the Netherlands – Sjief Tilly, course-leader design for performance and theatre-costume design, took part in the conferences of the students from Stage Design Department; Accademia di Belle Arti, Macerata, Italy – Gigliola Rosciani, administrator of LLP Erasmus was on administrative staff training visit at the International Department of NAA.
Preparatory Visit
In June 2009 a delegation of the two vice rectors Prof. Mitko Dinev in charge of international relations and Prof. Anna Boyadjieva in charge of the artistic activity visited two of the most prestigious academies for art in Finland – Finish Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki where they had meetings with the Rector of the Academy Dr. Maria Hirvi-Ijas and the University of Art and Design, Helsinki where they were received by Vice Rector Martti Raevaara. During these visits our representatives were able to have a look at the studios and their equipment, exchange information for teaching programs, to have talks and to sign Bilateral Agreement for mobility under LLP Erasmus with the partners from Finland.
Monitoring Visit
In June Prof. Svetoslav Kokalov, Rector of the National Academy of Art, was on a monitoring visit to Hogeschool Zuyd University, Maastricht Theatre Academy, The Netherlands. He was shown around the academy and its studios of Stage Design, acquired information about the teaching program, the process of training of our Erasmus students and had a meeting with the teaching staff and the students of the host academy.
Intensive Programs (IP) – short term programs for education under LLP Erasmus
The National Academy of Art along with the Academy of Fine Art, Macerata, Italy,
Academy of Fine Art in Warsaw, Warsaw, Poland, Universidad Politecnica of Valencia, Spain, Ecole Des Beaux Arts de Rennes, France, University of Art and Design, Cluj Napoca, Romania, University of Salford, England applied and were granted a subsidy for the Picto fresco project under LLP – Erasmus – Intensive Programs. The project will be realized in April 2010 and aims to introduce a new technology for fulfillment of Fresco. The international team includes teachers and students from the participating in the project academies and will test the new technology for fulfillment of fresco in the Renaissance Hall in the central building of the Academy in Macerata, Italy.
* The National Academy of Art continued successfully its partnership with Cite Internacionale des Arts, Paris, France. From the beginning of 2008 till that moment four teachers spent 2 months practice each in our studio at Cite. Apart of them two 2008 MA graduate students Magdalena Nikolova and Yordana Koeva in Textiles and Mural Painting of NAA were selected by competent jury to spent 2 months at our studio in Cite.

* In November 2007 Teacher and Disciple Exhibition of teaching staff and students’ works from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland was opened at Academia Gallery of NAA. In return our academy set up also representative exhibition of teaching staff and students’ works hosted by the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland in February 2008. The opening of our exhibition was attended by Prof. Anna Boydzhieva, Vice Rector, Prof. Krasimir Valkanov and Prof. Grigori Grigorov.

| * In May 2008 our academy accepted 10 students and 2 teachers from the Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Chanakkale, Turkey for participation in Materials and Processes workshop co-organized by our Ceramic and Textile Departments. * The Protocol for Cooperation signed by the academies of the region envisages joint organization of annual group exhibition aiming to demonstrate the achievement in education and new tendencies in the development of art in the countries of Southeast Europe. At the same time this exhibition will be accompanied by symposium, conferences and workshops. The Protocol also envisages short-term exchange visits of students and teaching staff and joint participation in projects in the field of art. Our partners under this Protocol are Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, Istanbul, Turkey, the National University for Arts, Bucharest, Romania, University for Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, the University of Zagreb, Croatia, the Academy of Arts in Sarajevo, Bosna, Cyril and Metodius University, Skopje, Macedonia, Academy for Fine Arts, Tirana, Albania, Aristotle University in Thessalonica, Greece.

Teacher’s mobility
* During the academic year 2008/2009 three members of the NAA teaching staff have travelled under the Erasmus program:
Prof. Liliana Angelova – Gent (Belgium), Prof. Bojidar Bonchev - Porto (Portugal) and Prof. Dessislava Mincheva - Barcelona (Spain)
* During the same period the NAA received three foreign lecturers – from the Royal
Academy of Fine Arts Antwerpen (Belgium), the Royal Welsh College of Music and
Drama, Cardiff (UK) and the Academy Of Fine Arts in Warsaw (Poland)
| * On October 4, 2007 at Academia Gallery the worldwide known and outstanding “master” of Graphic Design SHIGEO FUKUDA, Japan was awarded the title Doctor Honoris Cause of the National Academy of Art. | ![]() |
| * On 31 October 2007 HUGO WUTEN, collector and patron of art and donor to the National Academy of Art, was awarded the title Doctor Honoris Cause of the National Academy of Art. On this occasion at the Academia Gallery Ivo Hadjimishev set up his exhibition of selected photography, reflecting the collection of Hugo Wuten and in parallel Petia Tetevenska presented her documentary film The Hugo’s Park of the Bulgarian National Television, directed by Damian Petrov. | ![]() |
