Тhe Silk Road Project 2010 “Roads of Dialogue”
enables artists of various kinds to give unique, creative input to the topic of “intercultural dialogue,” using the language their art provides them with.
As you may surely know the ancient, historic Silk Road is an early example of intercultural dialogue, based on exchanges between the countries of East Asia and those of the Mediterranean Sea. These exchanges were not only based on trade, but also on transfer of such immaterial goods as different religions, philosophical thinking, art, ideals, songs, stories, food, technological achievements and scientific findings, carried by salesmen and their caravans.
The ancient Silk Road is history, but its multi-cultural spirit is more up to date than ever before in times of globalization. Bruno Baumann, the initiator of the Silk Road Project 2010 “Roads of Dialogue” says: “What was possible 2000 years ago should be put into practise in the 21st century, too.”
Bruno Baumann who is an author, filmmaker and photojournalist, living in Munich, has been dealing with the ancient Silk Road and his vision of a new Silk Road for many years. He has published several articles in books and magazines. Furthermore, he is convinced that nowadays it is necessary to support a prosperous dialogue between the different cultures.
In order to realise this idea, a caravan will start May 2010 from Hamburg, travelling along the Silk Road, passing Venice, Varna, Bucharest, Istanbul, Samarkand, and Xian. The final destination of the caravan is the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai.
Each piece of art, especially created for the Silkroad Project, shall have the dialogue among cultures as central topic, no other restrictions are made.
The created oeuvre will be displayed in our online gallery in order for people from all over the world to have access. Moreover, exhibitions in towns along the Silk Road and in the facilities of our partners are planned.
The works will remain properties of the artists, but they should be kept for sale. In case of an exhibition the Silkroad Project will compensate for publishing, transport, and insurance. However, no remuneration can be paid.
A digital copy of the artwork, created for the Silkroad Inspiration, has to be sent to the Silkroad Team by 31st March 2010 at the very latest.
If you are willing to participate in our project, we ask you to answer as soon as possible, as well as send a short CV, a portrait photo and an image to exemplify your work.
